MSP430FR5994IPM
Ultra-low-power MSP430 FRAM microcontroller with a low-energy accelerator for FFT and FIR in a 64-pin LQFP.
The MSP430FR5994IPM is a Texas Instruments ultra-low-power microcontroller from the MSP430 FRAM family, running at up to 16 MHz with 256 KB of FRAM memory and a low-energy accelerator, in a 64-pin LQFP package. FRAM combines non-volatile storage with fast writes and low energy, so the part can log data continuously without the delay and endurance limits of flash, which suits metering, sensing and data-logging products that write frequently. The low-energy accelerator speeds up signal-processing functions such as FFT and FIR filtering by a large factor compared with a conventional low-power core, so the device can do real signal processing while staying in its low-power envelope. That combination makes it a strong fit for smart meters, sensor hubs and battery-powered products where energy per operation is the limiting factor. The device includes the analog and communication peripherals that such products need, and it is supported by TI's development tools and driver libraries. Choosing it over a C2000 part follows from the application: MSP430 is optimized for low-power sensing, while C2000 is optimized for real-time control. Every device is factory-traceable and ships with an import declaration, a certificate of origin and RoHS documentation. BeiLuo holds this part in regional stock and our FAE team supports low-power and FRAM design.
FAE Professional Review
This is the part we recommend when a product must process sensor data and log it continuously while running on a small battery. The FRAM memory removes the write-delay and endurance problems of flash, and the low-energy accelerator makes real signal processing affordable in a low-power part. Plan the power modes around the duty cycle, and use the accelerator for the filtering rather than doing it on the core.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the low-energy accelerator for?
The accelerator speeds up functions such as FFT and FIR filtering by a large factor, so the device can do signal processing without waking a faster core or drawing more energy.
It is what lets a low-power part handle real sensor processing.
Why is FRAM better than flash here?
FRAM writes fast and with low energy, and it does not have the endurance limit of flash, so data can be logged continuously without special wear-leveling.
That suits metering and logging products that write often.
